The CISO made it to the boardroom, ten hours a deck at a time
10 Aug 2026 · Security Leadership · CISO Careers
Today's good news, if you squint: the CISO finally has a seat at the table. The rest of the news is what it costs to keep it.
Ten hours a deck
Per research published today by Help Net Security, 71% of CISOs now spend 10+ hours preparing each board or audit-committee report. The work is translating technical security into business risk, resilience and consequence. On paper, this is the role maturing exactly as everyone said it should: security speaking the language of the business.
The confidence interval
The same research reports that only 12.5% are very confident the board actually understands the true state of the security program.
There's still a communication gap to close, and CISOs are clearly investing to close it.The other 87.5% presumably have another slide.
